Branston Bridge on track to reopen next week

Work on Branston Bridge has reached its final stages.

The waterproofing system has now been applied to the new structural saddle, and the end-of-saddle drains have also been installed. These catch and carry away any water infiltrating through the surfacing, preventing it from seeping (or soaking) into the brickwork. New kerbing has also been laid across the southern side of the bridge.

This week, verge paving will be laid across the south side of the bridge and the southwest drainage outfall will be completed. Some planning of the existing surfacing will be completed before laying of the tarmac starts today (Friday 4 July).

Surfacing will be laid and road markings applied early next week. As well as clearing the skips, stores and cabins, other works are also taking place in preparation for re-opening of the road. These are:

  • Repairs are being carried out to timber fencing, so that this can be done without disrupting traffic.
  • Trees are being trimmed so that they do not cause damage to tall vehicles, like buses.

Branston Bridge remains on track to reopen on 10 July. An update on specific timings will be provided next week.
