Padel in Beacon Park serves up a brand-new way to play outdoors

Residents and visitors can now enjoy one of the UK’s fastest-growing sports as Padel in Beacon Park officially opens on Thursday 30 July 2026, bringing three brand-new outdoor floodlit courts to one of Lichfield’s most popular parks.

The new facility forms part of Lichfield District Council’s investment in Beacon Park, creating more opportunities for people to get active, enjoy the outdoors and make the most of the park’s growing leisure offer.

Owned by Lichfield District Council and managed by Active Lichfield District, the new courts are the latest addition to Beacon Park’s growing leisure offer, following the recent opening of Adventure Golf and alongside the park’s walking routes, play areas and Pavilion café.

Councillor Andy Smith, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Major Projects at Lichfield District Council, said:

“We’re excited to welcome Padel in Beacon Park and introduce another fantastic way for people to enjoy being active outdoors.

“Padel has become one of the world’s fastest-growing sports because it’s fun, social and easy to learn, making it suitable for people of all ages and abilities. Whether you’re picking up a racquet for the first time or already love the game, these fantastic new courts provide a brilliant place to play.

“Beacon Park is already one of our district’s most popular destinations and Padel in Beacon Park gives people another reason to visit, spend time outdoors and enjoy everything the park and our city have to offer.”

Padel combines elements of tennis and squash and is typically played as doubles, making it a fast-paced, sociable game that’s easy to pick up. It has grown rapidly in popularity across the UK, with thousands of new players taking to the courts each year.

The three outdoor courts are open seven days a week and are available to book on a simple pay-as-you-go basis, with no membership required. Players can enjoy 60 minute sessions, enjoy floodlit evening play and access the courts using a secure digital entry code provided through the Playtomic app.

Sessions are competitively priced at £16 per hour during off-peak times and £20 per hour during peak periods, offering an affordable way to enjoy one of the country’s fastest-growing sports.

Perfectly located within walking distance of Lichfield’s historic city centre, Padel in Beacon Park offers visitors the chance to combine a game with everything else the city has to offer. From independent shops and cafés to restaurants, heritage attractions and the iconic Lichfield Cathedral, players can easily make a morning, afternoon or evening of their visit.
